The Weekend- Mansions

Friday morning, we headed down to Newport from Portsmouth to tour some once-upon-a-time American extravagance in the local mansions, or "cottages" as they were once called.

This is The Breakers mansion, the largest in Newport. I couldn't get back far enough to get it all in frame.
It was owned by the Vanderbilt family near the turn of the century and was turned over to the Preservation Society in 1948. It was from a fairy tale and very very large- it has 70 rooms.
Unfortunately, we couldn't take pictures inside, but apparently, Jane thought it looked a lot like Mr. Warbucks' home because she started singing, "Let's, go to, the movies!" I can attest that this interior is much grander and more ornate than the said Warbucks'. Again, it was extravagant. Extravagant and excessive.

We also visited The Elms and Rosecliff mansions. If you would like to hold your wedding, prom or just a really nice party, you can rent space at Rosecliff, a la carte. Don't forget to invite me!
